Before facing the final exams in 2015, I had to choose an area that can expose my expertise. I believed this is a chance for me to find a topic that focuses more on my dream path, Fashion. Consequently, I talked to my Art Teacher, who had mastered in Fashion Designing, to get a piece of advice regarding the topic that would be most appropriate. With her guidance, I concluded with the area of "Textile Printing and Designing".

This report contains research about techniques and tools used in Batik printing, Tie-and-Dye, Screen printing, fabric printing, stencil printing and other printing techniques such as Digital Sublimation printing, Block printing, Duplex printing, Transfer printing, Blotch printing, Electrostatic printing, Differential printing, warp printing and flock printing.
I have further attached the samples I have done by using the right tools for batik printing, tie-and-dye, screen printing, fabric printing and stencil printing.
The best way to learn something new is by trying to engage in it without spending time reading articles to understand. On account of that, my parents took me to the Folk Art Center in Sri Lanka, which contains national crafts of Batik, weaving, lacework, sculpture and traditional sweets. Fortunately, my parents and I met a nice lady, who was in the Batik village booth in the Folk Art Center. After taking to her about my project, she gladly agreed to help me with my project. One day, I visited her house. She took me to her work station in the backyard. The place had wax baths, the Batik printing tools in different sizes used when drawing on fabric. I took an Elephant design along with me to get her support to do the printing. With her guidance, I learned how to select the portion you need the pattern to get coloured in a dye bath. She also taught me how to do Tie-and-Dye easily.
The next technique I studied was Screen printing. Fortunately, my dad taught me how to do screen printing at home. I again illustrated another design in the computer that I wanted to screenprint on a piece of cotton fabric. Then had to print the design on a transparent sheet. Using the screen printing tools, I chose black as the colour I wanted to try on the cotton fabric. Then the piece was kept overnight for best performance.
The next simplest and oldest ways of doing printing on a garment is by fabric painting and stencil cutting. I easily did a line drawing on a piece of fabric of the design I wanted to paint using fabric paint. For a better quality, I kept the fabric piece overnight inside a dark room. Finally, the other technique is by creating your own stencil by cutting out inside of the pattern and fill colour into the cutout spaces, laying it on the garment.
I think you would like to know in detail, what I have experimented. I have added a softcopy for you to refer for your interest. Hope you'd like my work.
